Conditions & Injuries Shoulder
Certain conditions of the shoulder occur in athletes at all levels of competition. However, the same problems can occur in active and working non-athletes. One such example is Rotator Cuff Tendonitis. Other common terms for this problem are Impingement Syndrome and Bursitis of the shoulder.
Symptoms can occurs from repetitive overhead activities or from an injury. The pain is centered around the point of the shoulder and may give you difficulty with sleeping. Reaching or lifting overhead may become increasingly difficult due to pain. Activity modification, and over the counter medicines can be helpful. If problems persist evaluation with appropriate physical therapy referral and or consideration of steroid injection might be appropriate.
In more adavanced cases where non-operative methods have failed or a rotator cuff tear is suspected, an MRI is often needed for further diagnostic purposes. In such cases arthroscopic evaluation and repair might become necessary.
Other shoulder problems treated at New England Hand Associates include fracture care, Instability, and Arthritis.
